HURRICANE SANDY a.k.a. FRANKENSTORM

2012: In particular the fourth quarter has been incredible for VOLO, we have seen explosive growth in our client base, and our Recovery system has been instrumental in protecting hundreds of our clients and tens of thousands of their employees through one of the worst natural disasters to impact the United States during the last century. The VOLO Recovery system worked flawlessly and our client services staff deserves a “pat on the back” for performing 24 hours a day during the event.

Synergy: Synergy between the four VOLO Recovery tools provided our clients with the extra “EDGE” to successfully navigate through Hurricane Sandy.

Thundercall started by launching pre-event warning notifications to clients and their employees within the path of the storm. Following the Thundercall warnings we saw heavy use of our Communication module. The typical message provided employees and staff the status of the business and operations. Included in every message was a reminder with information contacting the two-way toll-free hotline “Virtual Bulletin Board”. The Virtual Bulletin Board allowed clients to post informational updates for employees to retrieve.;  Employees also reported their individual status to employers by using the “talk back” feature. Finally, the Virtual Switchboard was, as one client put it, “a miracle!” Virtual Switchboard allowed operations to continue even though access to the facility was impossible.

Although Hurricane Sandy dealt a blow to the Northeast, it was a resounding victory for all VOLO clients that had the vision to prepare their businesses to weather the storm.

TESTING, TESTING, TESTING

You’ve heard us say it time and again, “success means testing”. VOLO clients were extremely successful during Sandy because they tested their systems and practiced their plans. The VOLO client services team invites you to test!

Testing Examples:

- Discuss and decide which members of staff should be included in a test: all employees, or only key staff? Who is key staff?

- Verify the data in your system is up to date, or use the test as a way to prompt employees to update contact information.

- Choose the level of testing that you would like to conduct:

* Communication only (including survey feedback)
* Communication + Bulletin Board
* Communication + ThunderCall settings
* Communication + ThunderCall settings + Bulletin Board
* Virtual Switchboard “live or mock” rollovers, Basic or Advanced sessions.

- Discuss and decide the date and time for your test.

* Surprise testing


* Pre-planned testing (prepare employees about what to expect).
